Foto: Camilla WatsonThe workshops of sculpture in steel, given by the architect Mario Eiras Garcia (Uncle Banks) are appreciated by the pupils of the Association Meninos do Morumbi counting 200 pupils between 14 and 17 years-old. Since its beginning in 2000, the workshops of sculptures have disclosed talents.

A fertile imagination and the great ability of these boys and girls with the electric weld transform the scraps into sculptures that are admired and acquired by the public. In these activities the material used is donated by some companies, which stimulates the creativity of the pupil of the Meninos do Morumbi, that works with steel pieces, electric weld, varnish, ink for the finishing of the parts and granite rock that base or support the sculptures. The pupils under this age produce sculptures in “Durepox” or work with another art, as painting. For safety reasons, they do not deal with the weld and other abrasive tools.

Thus, our sculpture workshop has developed exclusive projects for companies to present their customers and suppliers in commemorative dates and events. We have already produced orders of sculptures with varied subjects, such as sports, automobiles, music, animals, among others.

The pieces produced by Meninos do Morumbi, are not only in anonymous hands. Many personalities have already been presented with the sculptures, as the Prime Minister of England Tony Blair, the writer Maria Adelaide Amaral and the theater director Ivaldo Bertazzo.

In 2002, the sculpture course firmed an important partnership with SKF, a bearings manufacturer. The company, that already donates material for the small artists, wants to stimulate even more the vocation of the boys, searching for space and giving support for exhibitions in traditional points of the city of São Paulo .
